NBC Picks Up “Outsourced” Pilot

2010 May 10

A new half-hour sitcom about a fictional Midwest company that outsources its call center to India was picked up by NBC.  It’s based on the 2006 movie of the same name.  It’s being billed as “the Midwest meets the exotic East in a hilarious culture clash.”   It’ll be interesting to see if anyone finds it funny.  Having perused some of the pilot script, I don’t have high hopes.   But you never know–plenty of shows started poorly and got better over time.

One side note: Chicago’s own Parvesh Cheena was cast as a recurring character.  Great for him!

Yay Parvesh! I enjoyed the movie more than most desis I know, but I can certainly understand why many are cautiously optimistic about the show. I’m still excited for Parvesh, though–he’s an old friend from college, and he’s been a working actor for a long time. I hope this will be a big break for him.
